Abstract: Most of the activities in Sri Lanka come to standstill due to the recent economic crisis. Particularly, people who are living around the island are facing various difficulties in livelihood due to the rise of prices of essential commodities. Among these, Mannar from Northern Province is the most affected region. Thus, this research tries to identify the difficulties faced by the people who are living under Mannar Divisional Secretariat in the rise of prices of essential commodities. It uses descriptive method through qualitative approach. Primary data were gathered through in-depth interview and discussion with 30 people under this region. This research finds that the people in this region are facing difficulties than others. They are trying to get the essential commodities with hard efforts due to the rising prices of them and scarcity. Some of them lost their daily working also.
