dc.description.abstract | ‘This study was conducted in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka. The objectives of the study were to find out the factors which determine poultry production among poultry farmers in the study area, also to find out the relationship among the factors using the Exploratory factor analysis approach. Data for analysis were collected from a sample of 1000 poultry farmers derived from a target population of 8818 farmers who were registered in the department of Animal Production and Health. A simple random sampling technique was applied in selecting the farmers who were included in the sample. Data was collected in three districts within Eastern Province. A structured questionnaire was administered to obtain the information. Data analysis was done using Exploratory factor analysis. The Result revealed that Land possession, Farm inputs, feeding process, The social factor, Technology factor, Management factor, and Environment factor were the factors that determine the poultry production in the study area. Communalities show how much of the variance in the variables have been accounted for by the extracted factors. results show that 81.3% of the variance in the feeding process was accounted for, 65.6% of the variance in land possession was accounted, 61,7% of the variance in farm the input was accounted for, 51.3% of the variance in Technology factor accounted. 45.2% of the variance in social factor was accounted, 70.6% of the variance in management factor was accounted and 46.5% of the variance in environmental factor was accounted, low communality value 0.3 indicated the items did not fit well with another item in its component. The correlation matrix proofed that there is a positive significant relationship among the factors except for Economic Factor and health status, Economic Factor and management factor, Market Participation, and technology factor, Health Status and Land Possession, Social Factor and land possession, management factor, and Land Possession. The animal production and health Eastern province department can consider the found determine factors to improve the success rate of poultry farming before implementing new projects among poor farmers. Providing training to the framers on technological aspects to get ability and creativity. Changing the attitudes, provision of information, education, and communication to change the attitude of the medium scale farmers towards the acceptance of appropriate Technology transfer to improve the production level. | en_US |
