Abstract: This study focuses on how religious pluralism and multi-ethnicity influence peaceful coexistence in a multi-cultural society. Sri Lanka is one of the multi-ethnic and multi-religious countries in South Asia where religions and ethnicity play a significant role in determining the stability of peaceful coexistence, politics, economy, and other socio-cultural changes. The positive impact of religious pluralism and multi-ethnicity is to promote peaceful coexistence by breaking down the barriers and bringing a better understanding of other cultures enrich lives, and encourage tolerance. In Sri Lanka, due to the negative consequence of the religious plurality and multi-ethnicity, it has experienced religious fundamentalism, racism, prejudice, and discrimination, and conflict in the past, and peaceful coexistence has threatened. Scholars in the study argued religious plurality and multi-ethnicity have been impacting positively and negatively in the process of peaceful coexistence in the country. The secondary data pertaining to the study have been collected from the various published source's books, research papers, and other literature in this background. This Research has carried out by reviewing of pieces of literature survey analysis through descriptive and comparative analysis methods. In conclusion, Sri Lanka is an ideal place for practicing religious pluralism through multi-cultural practice to promote coexistence, but that threatens various factors such as political power, ethnocentrism, religious extremism, and other negative impacts on peaceful coexistence. Tue, 01 Jun 2021 00:00:00 GMT http://ir.lib.seu.ac.lk/handle/123456789/5624 2021-06-01T00:00:00Z http://ir.lib.seu.ac.lk/handle/123456789/5623 Title: 21ம் நூற்றாண்டிலேற்பட்ட உயிர்ப்பல்வகைமை இழப்புக்கள் பற்றியதோர் மதிப்பீட்டாய்வு Authors: Niyas, Rasmiya; Ruzaik, Fareena Abstract: இருபத்தோராம் நூற்றாண்டின் அவசியம் தீர்வு காணப்பட வேண்டிய பாரிய பிரச்சனையாக உயிர்ப்பல்வகைமை இழப்புக் காணப்படுகின்றது. இந்நூற்றாண்டு வரை உலகம் பல பில்லியன் கணக்கான உயிரினங்களை இழந்திருந்தாலும் இருபத்தோராம் நூற்றாண்டின் ஆரம்பத்திலேயே உயிர்ப்பல்வகைமை இழப்புப் பல்மடங்காகப் பெருகியுள்ளது. அமேசன் மற்றும் அவுஸ்திரேலியக் காட்டுத் தீ ஏற்படுத்திய உயிரின இழப்புக்கள் இதற்குத் தகுந்த சான்றாக அமைகின்றன. 2019 ஆம் ஆண்டில் மாத்திரம் அமேசன் காட்டுத் தீயினால் 2.3 மில்லியன் விலங்குகளும் அவுஸ்திரேலியாவின் நியு சவுத் வேல்ஸ் நகரில் ஏற்பட்ட காட்டுத் தீயினால் சுமார் 50 கோடி விலங்குகளும் அழிவடைந்துள்ளன (Gwyn D'Mello 2019). கடந்த ஆண்டு IUCN இனால் வெளியிடப்பட்ட உலகில் அச்சுறுத்தலை எதிர்நோக்கியுள்ள உயிரினங்கள் பற்றிய தகவலை வழங்கும் செந்தரவுப் பட்டியலில் (Red List) 128918 இனங்கள் சேர்க்கப்பட்டுள்ளதோடு 35500 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட இனங்கள் அழிவின் விளிம்பில் இருப்பதாகவும் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது உலகின் மொத்த உயிரினங்களிலும 2828% ஐக் கொண்டுள்ளது (IUCN 2020). இவ்வழிவடையும் இனங்களை அதிகளவில் கொண்டுள்ள பிரதேசங்கள் “உயிர்ப்பல்வகைமை அழியுநிலை மையங்கள்" எனச் சர்வதேச ரீதியில் அடையாளப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. இவ்வாறு அடையாளப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ள 36 பிரதேசங்கள் உலகளவில் காணப்படுகின்றன. அதிலொன்றாக இலங்கைத் தீவும் காணப்படுவது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. சூழல் நேயமற்ற மனித செயற்பாடுகளே இந்நூற்றாண்டின் உயிர்ப்பல்வகைமை இழப்பிற்கான மூலகாரணமாக உள்ளது. 2019 ஆம் ஆண்டுக் கணக்கெடுப்பின்படி 20 ஆயிரத்து 338 இனங்கள் மனித நடவடிக்கைகளால் அழிந்து போயுள்ளன (Conservation International 2020 ). உயிர்ப்பல்வகைமை மீதான மனித இனத்தின் இவ் அத்துமீறல்களுக்குக் காரணம், ஓரிரு மணித்தியாலங்களில் திடீரென ஏற்பட்டு பேரழிவுகளை ஏற்படுத்திச் செல்லும் இயற்கை அனர்த்தங்களை விடவும் மறைமுகமாக மிக வேகமாக இடம்பெறும் உயிர்ப்பல்வகைமை அழிவு மனித இனத்திற்குப் பேராபத்தாக அமையப்போகின்றதென்பதை அறிஞர்கள் முதற்கொண்டு அடிமட்ட மக்கள் வரையில் இன்னும் முழுமையாக உணராமையே ஆகும். எனவே உயிர்ப் பல்வகைமை இழப்பைத் தடுக்க தேசிய, சர்வதேச ரீதியில் உயிர்ப்பல்வகைமை பாதுகாப்புத் தொடர்பில் முறையான விழிப்புணர்வுகளுடன் இயைந்த செயற்திட்டங்கள் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்பட்டு அடிமட்ட மக்கள் வரையில் கொண்டு சேர்க்கப்படுவதோடு உயிர்ப்பல்வகைமை அழிவுநிலை மையங்களாக அடையாளப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ள எஞ்சியுள்ள பிரதேசங்கள் அதியுச்ச கவனம் செலுத்திப் பாதுகாக்கப்படவும் வேண்டும். இவ்வாறான பல்வேறு துரித நடவடிக்கைகள் முன்னெடுக்கப்படுவதன் மூலமாகவே உயிர்ப் பல்வகைமை இழப்பைத் தடுத்து அதனால் ஏற்படவிருக்கும் பாரிய அழிவிலிருந்து உலகையும் மீட்டெடுக்கலாம். Imams who perform their traditional duty to preside over the prayer as one of the primary spiritual duties, need to pay attention to the diverse needs of the Muslims in their respective areas. Among these, it is important to provide proper guidance on psychological challenges faced by the people of the community. Hence, the study was conducted to identify the role of imams in guiding Muslims to face psychological problems efficiently. Based on the previous literature, research articles, books and web articles related to the topic have been reviewed and the results were presented in the descriptive method. The major finding of this review is that as well as the imams' concern about the various needs of Muslims, it is their duty to provide effective guidance regarding the psychological challenges faced by Muslim community members. This study will help to create awareness of the importance of imams' role in providing necessary guidelines to successfully overcome the psychological challenges faced by community members at various levels.
