An analysis of the effects of Norway-led multilateral intervention on the course and duration of the civil war in Sri Lanka

Title: An analysis of the effects of Norway-led multilateral intervention on the course and duration of the civil war in Sri Lanka
Authors: Ihjas, M.M; Ranjith Dickwella, W.K
Abstract: Over the recent past, there has been an increasing importance of managing civil conflicts
with the involvement of international actors such as individual states, regional and international
multilateral organizations (Regan 2002).In Sri Lanka, unprecedently, there had been a close
international involvement in the peace process right from its onset in 2002 with the proclaimed
attempt of finding political solution to the decades-long civil war between government of Sri
Lanka(GoSL) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam(LTTE). In this backdrop, this paper
attempts to examine systematically the potential effects of Norway-led multilateral intervention
on the course and duration of the civil war in Sri Lanka by using qualitative analysis based
on major empirical argumentation of the scholarship of effects of external intervention in
civil war situation. Results of the analysis suggest dichotomous findings that while supporting
the empirical argument casts skepticism over the adequate treatment of factors that influence
the outcome of intervention by the empirical studies.

Explore repercussion of role models on entrepreneurial intention

Title: Explore repercussion of role models on entrepreneurial intention
Authors: Pretheeba, P; Ponmani, R; Annapoorani, R
Abstract: A decision to start a business is persuaded not only by individual characteristics but also
through socialization. Inspiration an individual had via family, school, peers, mass media,
public opinion, volunteer groups and spirituality play an imperative role in their career
decision. However there is dearth of studies on influence of role models in mounting
entrepreneurial inclination especially among students in South-Asian perspective. An attempt
has been made to present a detailed empirical reconnaissance on effect of role models in
creating entrepreneurial intentions among postgraduate students in India. The study employs
the Ajzen’s theory of planned behaviour, in which intentions are regarded as upshots of attitudes,
subjective norms and perceived behavioural control. Data were compiled via questionnaire
survey from 188 post-graduate students from science and non-science degree from a recognized
university in Tamilnadu, India. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was worked-out to
scrutinize the influence of role models on science and non-science postgraduate students’
entrepreneurial intention and the antecedents of entrepreneurial intention. The outcome of
the survey divulged that there is a significant relationship between the role models and level
attitude, perceived behavioural control and subjective norms towards entrepreneurial activity.

NRI sham marriages : a socio - legal problem in India

Title: NRI sham marriages : a socio - legal problem in India
Authors: Amit, Kashyap; Shashi Bala, Kashyap
Abstract: Marriage as a social institution is losing its original concept and the legislative law as well as
the courts are aware of this social upheaval. Just as drug abuse and attacks on internal
security are external criminal threats to Indian society, matrimonial discord and changing
matrimonial ethos are internal destabilizing factors in Hindu civil society. Legislative law
and court procedures have a significant role to play in strengthening and streamlining the
most important social institution of marriage. Thus, marriage laws and other measures for
the welfare of women have become the focus of attention of the Indian legislature as well as
Courts at all levels.
